The green color of leaves, the red of poppies, the yellow petals of sunflowers, petunias, begonias and lilacs, freesias and altheas, violets and carnations, tulips and roses, nasturtiums and hibiscus which love tropical climates, cacti that sting if you’re not careful, the plastic watering can lying around in a corner, always damp. And maybe the hammock too, if you have a garden you might have a hammock to complete the picture. And if you’re not lucky enough to have a garden, if you live in an apartment, you probably have potted flowers on shelves or hanging from hooks.
In my opinion, gardening can be a very pleasant activity and it may be the case for you too. For some it’s a hobby, for others it’s a job. And for still others, it may be a chore, what do I know? Either way, it’s a good topic for a vocabulary lesson.

That will be all for this lesson. I just have a quick comment on the word 植木 . うえき which means "the tree". You already know the kanji 木 . き by itself already means "the tree", so what is the difference with 植木 . うえき? In fact, the kanji 植 refers to the plant, rather in the sense of the action of planting. We find it in the verb 植える . うえる which means "to plant". The kanji 植 is not very common in the Japanese language, we find it mainly in words related to gardening, botany and, surprisingly, colonization.
Of course, the world of gardening cannot be summed up in the few words I have given you. If you come across a word you don’t know, look it up in the dictionary.
That will be all for this course. Practice both writing and speaking and continue your progress.
Have a lovely day everybody.
